IN RESPONSE TO INFORMATION PROVIDED AT
PUBLIC HEARINGS, RESULTS OF A MEAT AND POULTRY HOTLINE SURVEY, AND
OTHER INFORMATION, FSIS HAS DETERMINED THAT ITS CURRENT POLICY ON
THE USE OF THE TERM "FRESH" ON THE LABELING OF RAW POULTRY PRODUCTS
HAS CONSIDERABLE POTENTIAL TO MISLEAD CONSUMERS. THEREFORE, FSIS IS
AMENDING ITS POLICY, AND SOME ESTABLISHMENTS LABELING RAW POULTRY
PRODUCTS WOULD HAVE TO MAKE LABELING CHANGES.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
