Abstract: EPA WILL MONITOR INDIVIDUAL ENGINE MANUFACTURER COMPLIANCE WITH THE CLEAN AIR ACT STIPULATION THAT VEHICLES BE FREE OF FEDERAL EMISSION STANDARDS DEFECTS DURING EACH VEHICLE'S USEFUL LIFE. MANUFACTURERS VOLUNTARILY PROVIDE A) THE INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO RECALL AND B) QUARTERLY REPORTS THAT PERMIT EPA TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE RECALL PROCEDURES AND REMEDIAL PLAN.
