We have extended
approval for the pilot phase of this collection throu December
1994. The previous terms of clearance continue to apply, including
a requirement that CDC prepare a report on the pilot phase
documenting any methodological problems that may arise and need
correction prior to the full study.

AN EPIDEMIOLOGIC STUDY WILL BE
CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE WHETHER THYROID DISEASE IS INCREASED AMONG
PERSONS EXPOSED AS YOUNG CHILDREN TO RADIOACTIVE IODINE RELEASED
FROM THE HANFORD NUCLEAR SITE. A PILOT STUDY IS BEING CONDUCTED TO
TEST PROCEDURES AND DETERMINE ACTUAL LEVEL OF EXPOSURE. A FULL
EPIDEMIOLOGIC STUDY WILL FOLLOW THE PILOT PHASE.
