7/93 under the condition that no later than 6/93, AHCPR briefs OMB
on its survey experience in the Prescription Drug module and its
plans for further testing alternative methods for relating
expenditures to institutional drug utilization. In particula OMB is
interested in the availability, variety, and characteristics of
institutional data bases for drug expenditures. In the briefing,
AHCP should: 1) summarize its findings in regard to the quality,
validity, and comprehensiveness of facility responses to the
Recontact Log; 2) based on survey knowledge of existing data
sources, facility and pro fessional behavior, etc., the drug
expenditure data options most feasible for pretesting, e.g.
reliance on pharmacy records, a mixture of pharmacy records and
abstraction, medical record abstraction and imputation, etc.; and
3) an analysis of each alternative's relative cost versus the
anticipated quality and timeliness of the drug expenditure
data.
