approved on the understanding that the new forms will b used for
all companies selected in both the old sample and the new one. On
or before July 31, 1992, the Census Bureau shall submit a report fo
this docket evaluating the initial response experience with the new
design. If response to inventory items is substantially below that
fo sales items, the report must include an analysis of the problems
contributing to this shortfall -- including an evaluation of any
mismatch between inventory practices and the monthly schedule of
this survey. The report should also indicate alternatives for
correcting any problems.

INVENTORY LEVEL ARE USED BY GOVERNMENT AND NONGOVERNMENT USERS IN
GAUGING ECONOMIC TRENDS. THESE DATA ARE NOT PUBLICLY AVAILABLE FROM
OTHER GOVERNMENT OR NONGOVERNMENT SOURCES.
