The "Annual
Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plans (Form 5500 Series)" is
approved through November 1991, which is the same approval date
given for the IRS portion of the Form 5500 (1545-0710). In future
submissions the PBGC and DOL should coordinate review of the Form
5500 series more closely with IRS -- so that all packages are
submitted to OMB simultaneously. To that end, PBGC should maintain
contact with the Tax Forms and Publications Division at IRS
(specifically, Gary Shear). In addition, for future requests for
PRA approval of the Form 5500 series, OMB requests that the
Department of Labor, Internal Revenue Service, and the PBGC use a
common basis and methodology for estimating the paperwork burden of
these reporting requirements.
