Abstract: BIRD ISLAND BASIN IS THE MOST INTENSIVELY USED AREA OF PADRE ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE. ACCESS IS LIMITED TO ONE NARROW ROAD AND THE AREA IS GEOGRAPHICALLY CONSTRAINED. BOAT LAUNCING, WINDSURFING, CAMPING, SHORE FISHING, SWIMMING AND NATUR OBSERVATION ARE MAJOR USES. POTENTIALLY SERIOUS VISITOR USE CONFLICTS CHALLENGE PARK MANAGEMENT. USER PREFERENCES AND PERCEPTION INFORMATIO IS BADLY NEEDED.
