In accordance
with 15 CFR 1320, OMB approves this information collection until
June 1, 1988. To obtain approval at that time, NMFS must explain
how the information requested of applicants at 50 CFR 228.4 is used
to make a determination on marine mammal takes. More specifically,
NMFS needs to explain why applicants, rather than NMFS, should
provide information on effects of such takes on the mammal
population and habitat, as requested in items 4 through 11.
Finally, NMFS must specify which applicants must fill out
Environmental Impact Statements, how such statements are used to
aid applicants in filling out the application, and if necessary,
how burden hours should be adjusted to reflect the true burden
imposed on the reporting public.
