Abstract: SHIPPERS, CARRIERS AND EMERGENCY PERSONNEL USE THE INFORMATION CONTAIN ON SHPPING PAPERS TO IDENTIFY THE PRESENCE OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS, THEIR QUANTITY AND IDENTIFICATION. THE INFORMATION IS USED TO AVOID INCOMPATIBLE COMINGLING OF MATERIALS, LOADING OF FORBIDDEN MATERIALS, AND TO KNOW PROPER HANDLING IN TRANSIT AND IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.
