FEDERAL STATUTES REQUIRE THAT EACH
STATE (1) MAINTAIN A SURVEY OF ALL PUBLIC ROADS TO IDENTIFY
HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS, ELEMENTS, AND RAIL-HIGHWAY CROSSINGS, (2)
ASSIGN PRIORITIES FOR THEIR CORRECTION, AND (3) ESTABLISH AND
IMPLEMENT A SCHEDULE OF HIGHWAY SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS. THESE
PROJECTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR FEDERAL AID FUNDING.
