IN 1977 THE NEH MUSEUMS PROGRAM
AWARDED A SERIES OF GRANTS TO 21 STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETIES
ENABLING THEM TO EVALUATE THEIR HUMANITIES PROGRA AND SERVICES TO
THE PUBLIC. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROPOSED SURVEY IS TO DETERMINE THE
LONG-TERM IMPACT OF THE SELF-STUDY GRANTS ON THESE INSTITUTIONS,
PARTICULARLY THEIR ABILITY TO DELIVER PUBLIC HUMANITIES PROGRAMS.
FINDINGS WILL BE USEFUL TO NEH FOR PLANNING FUTURE GRANT PROGRAMS
AND TO MUSEUM FIELD FOR LONG-RANGE PLANNING.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
