FEDERAL AVIATION ACT OF 1958, SECTION
601 (49 USC 1421), DIRECTS THE SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION TO
EXERCISE HIS POWERS IN A MANNER THAT WILL TEND TO REDUCE OR
ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF, OR RECURRENCE OF, AIR TRANSPORTATION
ACCIDENTS. SAFETY IMPROVEMENT INFORMATION IS USED TO INITIATE
CORRECTIVE ACTIONS.
