In its
resubmission, FNS must demonstrate that its proposed record keeping
requirement will meet statutory requirements or the intent of GAO's
audit recommendations of January 1977. Furthermore, FNS must
demonstrate the practical utility of the food preference
information, in particular its effect on policy changes for the
price support and surplus removal programs. FNS should also include
information on its efforts to seek regulatory or legislative
changes to make the program more useful.

(SFDAC'S) FOOD PREFERENCE INFORMATION COLLECTION RESPONSIBILITIES.
IT REDUCES THE REPORTING BURDENS AND PROVIDES THE SFDAC'S WITH THE
OPTIONS OF (1) DETERMINING THE METHOD AND SCOPE OF GATHERING
PREFERENCE INFORMATION AND (2) USING THE FORMAT DETERMINED TO BE
MOST APPROPRIATE IN EACH STATE'S SITUATION.
