Abstract: THERE ARE CURRENTLY MORE THAN 50 DIFFERENT TYPES OF PERMITS IN USE THROUGHOUT THE SERVICE. THEY VARY IN PURPOSE BUT CAN BE GROUPED INTO FOUR BROAD CATEGORIES: SPECIAL USE, GENERAL PARK PERMIT, COMMERCIAL US AND PUBLIC USE. THE AUTHORITY TO ISSUE PERMITS, CONTROL AND MONITOR VISITOR USE IS PROVIDED IN VARIOUS ACTS CREATING CONGRESSIONALLY CLASSIFIED MANAGEMENT AREAS.
