This
recordkeeping requirement is approved through March 1982. OMB
issues this approval on the condition that FRA complete internal
review of this requirement and submit for OMB review a draft NPRM
whic considers methods of reducing the recordkeeping burden of the
current system. By November 30, 1981 FRA should submit to OMB a
schedule detailing its plans to complete review and begin
rulemaking on this requirement.

THE HOURS OF SERVICE ACT AS AMENDED,
PL-94-348 REQUIRES CARRIERS TO MAINTAIN RECORDS OF EMPLOYEES HOURS
OF SERVICE AND TO MAKE MONTHLY REPORTS OF EXCESS SERVICE TO FRA.
INFORMATION MAINTAINED AND REPORTED BY CARRIERS WILL SERVE AS A
BASIS FOR MONITORING THEIR COMPLIANCE WUTH REGULATIONS.
