granted with the following provisions: 1) HHS may remunerate only
200 respondents. Further remuneration approval will be granted only
if statistically significant findings are demonstrated in the
remuneration experiment. 2) Question on ethnicity must conform to
the format used in previous drug abuse surveys. 3) Questionnaire
for split sample "M" is not approved due to lack of compelling
Federal need.

THE 1981-82 NATIONAL SURVEY ON DRUG
ABUSE CONSISTS OF PERSONAL INTERVIEWS WITH APPROXIMATELY 5,500
RESPONDENTS AGED 12 AND OLDER RANDOMLY SELECTED FROM THE HOUSEHOLD
POPULATION OF THE COTERMIOUS U.S. FINDINGS WILL PROVIDE PREVALENCE
ESTIMATES AND BE USED BY FEDERA AND STATE AGENCIES TO DETERMINE
POLICY AND STRATEGY FOR EDUCATION, PREVENTION AND TREATMENT
PROGRAMS.
