EMERGENCY LOCATOR TRANSMITTORS (ELT)
ARE USED TO LOCATE DISABLED AIRCRAFT AS AN AID TO SEARCH AND RESCUE
(SAR) ACTIVITIES. CASES OF IMPROPER AND INADEQUATE PERFORMANCE OF
THE ELT HAVE REQUIRED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SECOND GENERATION ELT TO
IMPROVE THE SAR COMMUNITY WITH THE NECESSARY INFORMATION TO
EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE NEW PROCESS. START DATE-APRIL
1980.
