Abstract: THE SECRETARY OF STATE IS AUTHORIZED TO MAKE GRANTS FOR DEPENDENT CARE TO FAMILY MEMBERS ATTENDING LANGUAGE AND ORIENTATION PROGRAMS OF STUDY AT THE FOREIGN SERVICE INSTITUTE. THE DATA COLLECTED ON JF-53 IS USED TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY IN THE TRAINING PROGRAMS, APPROVE GRANTS, AND SUPPORT OTHER FUNCTIONS RELATIVE TO THE GRANT PROGRAM.
